Virtual Sessions in NY & NC
About Me
Hi, my name is Cassandra, and I am a 2nd-generation Caribbean-American. I spent most of my life at the intersection of the northern Bronx and Mount Vernon, New York. Growing up, I was surrounded by people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and through my interactions with them, I learned to acknowledge similarities while appreciating our differences. I have also learned the importance of community, representation, and advocacy for mental health treatment in underserved populations. When you enter a session with me, I want you to feel comfortable and seen for who you are, rather than the issues you are experiencing. I look forward to assisting in helping you manage your current concerns and getting to know the you beyond what you’re currently struggling with.
Who I Work With
I have experience working with people from all walks of life, from college students to individuals in federal prison. However, my work has been primarily with older adolescents and adults, mostly identifying as BIPOC and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In terms of what brings people to my sessions, I mainly help individuals managing experiences of trauma, interpersonal issues, depression, anxiety, OCD, chronic stress, and serious mental illness.
My Approach
I was trained in a dual orientation (CBT/Psychodynamic) program and integrate techniques from both to tailor a therapeutic experience that would be most beneficial to the individual I am working with. The foundation of my clinical work is aiding in developing insight into capabilities, agency, and control of the situation and finding strength in agency to make changes that positively impact life. I approach my work with humility, curiosity, and recognition of the difficulty of confronting uncomfortable and challenging experiences while juggling social, academic, cultural, and personal responsibilities, especially in belonging to a marginalized population. Some of the main goals for therapy in general are decreasing distress, maintaining normative daily functioning, improving the quality of life, and ultimately being able to do all of the aforementioned without the aid of a therapist.
