New York is loud, fast, and relentless. It rewards hustle and punishes slowness. And if you already have a brain that runs worst-case scenarios on a loop, living here can make anxiety feel like a permanent state of being rather than something you can actually change.
You can change it.
At Kind Mind Psychology, we offer virtual anxiety therapy for NYC clients using the evidence-based approaches that have the strongest track record for anxiety disorders: CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We treat generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, health anxiety, performance anxiety, and the anxiety that frequently shows up alongside ADHD, trauma, and depression.
CBT is our most common starting point. It identifies the thought patterns and avoidance behaviors keeping your anxiety cycle alive and teaches you practical skills to interrupt them. For social anxiety, CBT includes graduated exposure. For panic disorder, it breaks the panic cycle so attacks stop feeling life-threatening. DBT adds emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills when anxiety comes with emotional intensity that’s hard to control. EMDR is used when anxiety is rooted in past traumatic experiences that your nervous system hasn’t finished processing.
We bring particular expertise in working with BIPOC clients managing race-related stress and hypervigilance, LGBTQ+ individuals navigating minority stress and anxiety around identity, and people in alternative lifestyles who carry anxiety about judgment or disclosure.
All sessions are virtual. We accept Aetna, Cigna, and Northwell Direct for NYC clients. Sliding scale from $25. Visit our Insurance & Fees page for details.
CBT has the most research support for anxiety disorders and is typically our first approach. Depending on your presentation, we also use DBT, EMDR, and ACT. We match the approach to what’s driving your anxiety.
