Therapy That Meets You Where You Are
All of our services at Kind Mind Psychology are available virtually. No commute, no waiting room, no rearranging your entire day around a therapy appointment. You log on from wherever you’re most comfortable, and we get to work.
We offer virtual therapy across New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina for all services, including individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, sex therapy, and teen therapy. Group therapy (DBT skills groups) is available across all PSYPACT states. Executive functioning / ADHD coaching is available nationwide.
Our founder, Dr. Monica Johnson, holds individual licenses in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Delaware and is PSYPACT authorized, which means she can practice across 40+ participating states. Every clinician on our team is licensed or supervised by a licensed psychologist in the states we serve.
How Virtual Sessions Work
Virtual therapy at Kind Mind works the same way an in-person session does, just through a secure video platform. Here’s what to expect:
Before your first session, our team will help you verify your insurance, discuss fees, and match you with a clinician whose training and style fit what you’re looking for. We’ll send you a link to our secure telehealth platform along with intake paperwork to complete before your appointment.
During your session, you’ll meet with your therapist over a HIPAA-compliant video connection. Sessions are typically 45 minutes. You’ll need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. That’s it.
Between sessions, your therapist may assign skills practice, worksheets, or specific things to try depending on your treatment approach. You’ll have a consistent weekly or biweekly schedule, and you can reach out to our office between appointments if you need to.
Everything that happens in a therapy room happens in a virtual session. The only difference is you don’t have to leave your house to get there.
Why Virtual Therapy Works
Virtual therapy isn’t a compromise. Research consistently shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for the conditions we treat, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD. For some clients, it’s actually more effective because it removes the barriers that made consistent attendance difficult in the first place.
This is especially true for our clients with ADHD. Getting out the door, managing a commute, and arriving on time are all executive functioning tasks that ADHD makes harder. Virtual therapy eliminates every one of those friction points. You don’t have to transition between environments. You don’t lose momentum between a stressful commute and the session itself. You just show up.
For couples, virtual sessions mean both partners can attend without coordinating schedules around travel. For teens, it means therapy happens in a space that already feels comfortable. For anyone managing a demanding work schedule, caregiving responsibilities, or chronic health conditions, it means therapy fits into your life instead of competing with it.
Who Virtual Therapy Is Right For
Virtual therapy is a good fit if you live in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Delaware, or any of the 40+ PSYPACT states and are looking for high-quality, affirming mental health care without geographic limitations. It works well for adults, teens (ages 12+), couples, and families.
It’s an especially good fit if you’ve struggled to maintain consistency with in-person therapy due to commuting, scheduling, health, or the executive functioning challenges that come with ADHD.
Virtual therapy may not be the best fit if you are in acute crisis and need immediate in-person stabilization, or if you don’t have access to a private space for sessions. If you’re not sure, reach out to us and we’ll help you figure out whether virtual therapy is right for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Virtual Therapy
Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Research supports the effectiveness of virtual therapy for the conditions we treat most frequently, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and relationship challenges. Many of our clients prefer virtual sessions because they eliminate commute time, reduce scheduling friction, and allow them to attend from a space that feels comfortable and private.
What technology do I need for virtual therapy?
You need a device with a camera and microphone (a laptop, tablet, or smartphone), a reliable internet connection, and a private space where you won’t be interrupted. We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform. You’ll receive a link before your first session.
What states can Kind Mind Psychology see clients in?
All individual, couples, family, sex, and teen therapy services are available in New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Group therapy is available across all PSYPACT states. Executive functioning and ADHD coaching is available nationwide. If you’re not sure whether we can see you in your state, contact us and we’ll let you know.
Can I do couples therapy virtually if my partner and I are in different locations?
Yes. Both partners can log on from separate locations. This is actually a common setup for couples managing different work schedules or living in different places temporarily.
Is virtual therapy covered by insurance?
Yes. Virtual therapy is covered by all of the insurance plans we accept, including Aetna, Cigna, BCBS (NC), Northwell Direct (NY), and UHC (for DBT groups). Coverage for virtual sessions is the same as for in-person sessions.
Is what I share in virtual therapy confidential?
Yes. Virtual therapy is held to the same HIPAA confidentiality standards as in-person therapy. We use a secure, encrypted video platform, and nothing you share in session is disclosed without your written consent (except in the limited safety-related circumstances we’ll review with you at intake).
